Plurality 101 (from a Nondisordered Perspective)

You may have heard of plurality before under a variety of names, including Multiple Personaity Disorder, Dissociative Identity Disorder, or other such terms. You may also be familiar with movies like Split or other awful examples.

The media sensationalizes depictions of plurality. This means that much of what is seen in movies and TV are awful depictions that focus on the most shocking possible elements and have a lot of fabrications if not outright lies.

Instead, we can look at the state of plurality like sharing an apartment with friends, except that the apartment is the body. In our system, we work together as a unit to maintain the body like a household would their living space. However, our system is a bit different than many out there in that we consider ourselves to be nondisordered. What we mean by this is that our plurality is not a disability or a disorder, but simply a different way of being. We're not hindered by our plurality, rather it helps us take care of the body, make wiser decisions (a council is often held for important decisions), and we do not experience amnesia. Some systems do, and are valid! Our experience is just a little different though.
